Charles Sturt Uni: Improved Campus in Port Macquar

A development application for work at CSU’s Port Macquarie campus was approved this week which would allow for a boost in student numbers and a wider range of courses to be offered. By 2015 CSU will welcome students into Education and Communications, Creative Industries & more Social Science courses. The campus will also get two medical imaging laboratories with advanced x-ray equipment and image viewing stations. Work is due to complete on the campus in late February 2014.

Pre-Law Pathway if you don't get the ATAR

The Pre-Law Pathway at Macquarie University is designed for those students who just missed out on admission to a law program. Admission to the Pre-Law Pathway allows students in non-law degrees to undertake introductory law units as a pathway to enter a law degree. The ATAR required to enter the Pre-Law Pathway in 2014 is 93. If accepted into this pathway, students may study law units in their first year, and upon successful completion, move into the full law program in their second year.

Macquarie University offers students from McCarthy 5 bonus points to be added automatically to your ATAR to improve your selection rank and is the only Sydney university to offer us bonus points for being regional students. Macquarie also awards over $2 million in scholarships each year for future and current students. These recognise a range of factors from social inclusion and equity, to financial need, academic excellence and sporting achievement. This year Macquarie has introduced the PACE Scholarship. With PACE, Macquarie students put their academic learning into practice by working on real world projects while developing valuable career skills and networks with one of our 400+ PACE partners in the business, government and community sectors. The PACE scholarship is valued at $1000 a year for three years and current school leavers need a minimum ATAR of 93 to apply.

Offers will be based on HSC performance bands in subjects that relate to their chosen degree and are made on 3 January 2014 prior to the main round.

Sometimes the staff here are surprised given our recommendations but ultimately it is up to the universities based on their quotas of places set aside plus your academic record and other activities. If not, then you see me on the last Thursday and Friday of term and I can show you the range of options available based on what you want to do.

School leavers interested in a building/construction/carpentry apprenticeship: TAFE New England – Tamworth Campus are offering a short course in Carpentry. The course has been designed to cater for students who are leaving, or considering leaving school and who may be interested in an apprenticeship in the building industry. The building industry is currently in high demand and TAFE have had a number of enquiries from local Tamworth builders seeking apprentices. Therefore, TAFE are providing students with an introduction to the carpentry trade in an effort to prepare them for potential employment opportunities over the vacation period and possibly a formal apprenticeship. Early Entry outcomes have been released to both successful and unsuccessful applicants. Students were notified of this via email last Friday. Hard copy letters will be sent out this week. If a student has not received notice, please ask them to double check their email address they provided – it may have been a mix up when entered in the system.
