UAC Main Round Offers- IMPORTANT advice from UAC
UAC: Posted 14-1-14 Deadline - No Deadline
UAC sent this: Undergraduate Main Round offers are coming soon. Main Round offers will be released at 9pm on Thursday 16 January at www.uac.edu.au.Checking your offer Our UAC homepage will have clear access points for checking if you've received an offer. You'll need your UAC PIN and UAC application number to log in. Forgotten any of your details? Check our UAC application number and UAC PIN FAQ for instructions on retrieving your application number and PIN. Although we'll be using extra servers to cope with demand, please be patient when accessing your offer details as the high volume of users online at the time can make things slower. Cut-offs- We'll be publishing the cut-off for entry into each course on our website. The cut-off for a course shows you the minimum ATAR needed by the majority of Year 12 applicants. Bonus points and entry to courses with an ATAR below the cut-off- In some circumstances, an institution may allocate bonus points to a Year 12 applicant; for example, in recognition of the applicant's performance in a relevant HSC subject, because the applicant lives or attended school in an area defined by the institution, or as part of an Educational Access Scheme.
If you are allocated bonus points you may receive an offer to a course even though your ATAR is below the cut-off published on our website.Find out more about institution bonus points schemes by visiting our subject and regional bonuses pages. Accepting your offer- If you get an offer, there will be links to information about how and when to accept it. In most cases you'll have to accept online. Make sure you accept by the deadline or your offer will lapse. Accept my offer or wait for the next round? We recommend that you accept your offer; if you don't, you might lose your chance to study at university this year. You may not receive an offer in later rounds and if you don’t accept by the specified date, the offer will lapse and your position at university will be offered to someone else. Accepting your offer doesn't stop you from being considered in a later round. Just make sure that the course you really want to study is listed as your first preference. More offer rounds coming up- After the Main Round, institutions will make more offers in the January Round 3 at 9pm on Thursday 30 January, but only to courses that still have vacancies. A list of these vacancies will be published on UAC's website with the course cut-offs. There will be progressively smaller offer rounds in February for courses that start in the first half of the year. Offer rounds for courses starting in the second half of 2014 will then continue until July. Read our offers page for more information about UAC's offer rounds.
Changing your preferences for later rounds- In later offer rounds you will be considered for any of the preferences you have listed higher than the course for which you've already received an offer in the Main Round. If you want to be considered for lower preferences than the course you have been offered in the Main Round, you must remove the offered course from your preferences using Check & Change. If you receive an offer in a later round, you can either accept this offer and withdraw from your Main Round offer, or keep your Main Round offer and not accept the later offer. Some institutions may not be able to consider changes of preference or new applications submitted after the Main Round, particularly for courses that use additional selection criteria. Check the course descriptions in the course search before you apply or change preferences.Still time to apply for semester 1 courses- Although you won't be able to receive a Main Round offer, you can still apply for undergraduate study in 2014. But remember that only very limited places will be available for courses starting in semester 1 after Main Round offers are released. Check the UAC undergraduate website after the Main Round for details of courses with vacancies. Some applicants need to provide documents relating to their previous study – normally not Year 12 applicants. Make sure you can get hold of these documents easily as there won't be much time for semester 1 offer rounds if you apply now. Read our Applying FAQs to find out more about what information you'll need to apply.

UAC advice
UAC: Posted 4-1-14 Deadline - 4-1-14
Best advice - put your dream courses first, second and third then courses with realistic ATARs 4-9 with the last preference being a very low ATAR to get you into the university system. You may get into courses that you don't think is possible with ATAR changes for 2014 and with bonus points for all sorts of reasons that you may not even be aware of that will increase your selection rank above your ATAR. Good luck. Remind your friends and let them know.

TAFE enrolments for 2014 - open now

ATAR, preferences, Bonus Pts, Selection Rank ***
UAC: Posted 30-12-13 Deadline - No Deadline
Remember that any bonus points you get (for EAS or being a regional student or for getting Bands 4-6 in certain subjects) are added automatically and CHANGE your selection rank. This is very important with the order that you put your preferences. Please check this out.

Breakfast BBQ from 7.30am to 9.00
School Matters: Posted 19-12-13 Deadline - No Deadline
Catering is organised. We are looking forward to seeing you. Catch up with friends and teachers. If you don't want to share your ATAR with everyone, that's ok. It is up to you but please come along and talk to me if your ATAR is higher or lower than expected. We can talk at the BBQ or make other arrangements that are suitable. I have a whole folder of information about options and lots of contacts at the universities, colleges and TAFE that I have built up over the years for this very reason. Share your news if you have found a job or apprenticeship already. I hope to see you there anytime from 7.30am until 9am.

Happy? Sad? Relieved? Devastated? Higher? Lower?
UAC: Posted 19-12-13 Deadline - No Deadline
Every student will react differently when they receive their ATAR depending on what their goals are - where they want to go and what they want to do. I have already seen several students who have received quite low ATARs which would mean that university is not an option at this stage. Yet in each case, we have been able to find pathways and courses of actions that will lead them to where they want to go. All because they made contact. This is the main message - please let's talk about your options. I can only help if you email me, ring me or come to the BBQ. I am willing to meet with you on your own or with your parents to discuss what you can do. I would not like to think of anyone feeling distraught, devastated or embarrassed but not asking for help or advice.

Heaps and heaps for scholarships for 2014
Scholarships: Posted 13-12-13 Deadline - No Deadline
Go to the website and choose your state (eg NSW) and then all the 91 pages of scholarships are organised according to each university starting with CSU and ending with UOW. If you don't apply, you don't have any chance of being successful. Have a go because $$$$$ worth of scholarships are not given each year because people do not apply thinking they are not worthy/entitled etc.

Email from UAC: Get ready for your ATAR
UAC: Posted 10-12-13 Deadline - No Deadline
This is what UAC sent today: Are you one of the almost 55,000 NSW HSC students waiting to find out your ATAR or Limited ATAR? We want to make this as easy as possible for you, so here are a few tips. Your ATAR or Limited ATAR will be available on our website from 9am on Thursday 19 December 2013. We’ll also post your ATAR Advice Notice to you and you’ll receive this from Friday 20 December 2013. You’ll need your UAC application number (or your HSC student number) plus your UAC PIN to log in to our website. If you can’t remember your UAC PIN, use Check & Change on our website to have it sent to your email address. You can also ask us for it over the phone or in person. When you phone we’ll ask you questions to confirm your identity. If you come to UAC in person we’ll ask you for photo identification. If you’ve lost your UAC application number, call us on (02) 9752 0200. Again, we’ll need to confirm your identity. We’ll be extremely busy when ATARs are released so if you need to contact us about your UAC PIN or application number we recommend you do it now. Your HSC student number is printed on your School Certificate Record of Achievement. Your school also keeps a record of it. You can also, call the Board of Studies NSW on 13 11 12. After confirming your identity, they’ll give you your number. UAC and the Board of Studies NSW cannot give your UAC PIN, UAC application number or HSC student number to anyone except you. The ATAR tells you how well you’ve achieved in the NSW HSC compared with the students who started Year 7 with you. For example, if you receive an ATAR of 70.00 you know you are in the top 30 per cent of your cohort. You might find that you and your friend receive similar HSC marks but that your ATARs are very different. This is because the strength of the competition in the courses you have chosen is different. For example, in one course a HSC mark of 70 might mean you have received a higher mark than 80 per cent of the candidates for that course. In another course the same mark might mean you have received a higher mark than only 50 per cent of the candidates. So your HSC marks are similar but your ranking is very different. Tertiary institutions use the ATAR to help them select applicants to their courses. That’s why it’s called the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank.To find out more read our frequently asked questions about The HSC and the ATAR.
