More young Australians are taking gap years before going to university and spend that time working or in further study. The figures show that 24% of young Australians took a gap year in the period 2009-10, an increase from 10% in the ten years since 1999-2000. For some students this is a good thing to do and not for others. This will be one of the topics discussed at the University Information Evening on July 25th 7-8.30pm.

Teaching scholarships

The NSW Department of Education and Communities Teacher Education Scholarship Program is now open. There are 300 scholarships on offer to all talented HSC students to train as teachers in mathematics, science, special education and English. Up to 80 scholarships are on offer exclusively for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to train as teachers in primary or any secondary subject. Some of the scholarship benefits include a guaranteed permanent job when you graduate and an annual allowance of $5,000.00 for every year of your studies (subject to successful completion).
