Australian Computer Society - acute shortage of sk
Career Choice: Posted 9-5-12 Deadline - No Deadline
At least 14,000 new ICT jobs will be created during 2012 and at least an additional 21,000 through 2013 but we are struggling to find the skilled people to fill them. ACS statistical research shows that university enrolments in ICT are currently less than half of what they were a decade ago and that despite a small recovery last year – as a percentage of the total student body – ICT students are continuing to decline. The pronounced decline in ICT education is also evident in the VET sector where a decade ago 75,000 people received an ICT qualification but by 2010 this had declined to 46,000.

UTS Bachelor of Accounting Scholarships 2013
Scholarships: Posted 22-4-12 Deadline - No Deadline
UTS Bachelor of Accounting co-op scholarship course. UTS says: The closing date for Round 1 applications is fast approaching – Friday 8 June. Please remind your interested students that they will need to have their application form signed off by the school before this date. Naturally, they will otherwise leave everything until the last minute! Application forms can be downloaded from our website at: www.bachelorofaccounting.com 3. Note that most applicants to the UTS BAcc course will be asking their High Schools to sign off and then fax through the Part B of their application form. This means that we receive hundreds of faxes in the last week before applications close on 8 June, so please note:(a) If you have trouble getting through on our fax line, it is OK to send the fax one or even two days after that close date (no applicant will be disadvantaged);(b) We can’t confirm receipt of applications at this busy time, but we do tell each applicant that they don’t need to worry:“Part A of our Application Form is completed online. Once you submit this Part online, we will get immediate on-screen confirmation that it has been successfully submitted. Part B of our Application Form must be submitted by your school. In the event that we receive Part A of your application and not Part B, we will contact you and give you time to chase this up.” 4. You should be receiving a small pack of our brochures and other promotional material in the mail in mid-May. Please use this material when talking to students who may wish to apply by our 8 June close date. 5. A reminder that our industry partners are looking for all-round achievers to join the course. Thus we are looking for applicants who have taken initiative and pursued interests within and outside school and in doing so demonstrated things like interpersonal skills, dedication and leadership. A high ATAR is not essential. Academic ability is just one of our 5 selection criteria, so some successful candidates will be stronger in other areas than on ATAR. Each year we take in applicants whose eventual ATARs fall in the range 85-100, so please encourage worthy students who don't expect to reach 95 ATAR to apply. 6. We will email all Round 1 applicants by mid-June, advising whether they have been selected for an interview or not. Interviews will be held in the July school holidays. In November we will write to all schools advising which of your students applied (in both our Round 1 and Round 2) and whether they were selected for interview.
