HSC Assessment ranks available online

The Board of Studies advises that HSC students will be able to check their assessment rank order from 4.00pm on Friday 11 November 2011. Students are directed by the Board of Studies NSW to lodge appeals regarding their assessment ranking with their school principal by 15 November 2011. The assessment rank order allows a student to see where their school has ranked them for each course. Students are advised that if there are any errors in their assessment ranking, it will affect their HSC result and they must lodge an immediate appeal.

HSC Advice Line opens Saturday 15 October

The HSC Advice Line will be open Saturday 15 October to Thursday 3 November 2011 for HSC students to call on 13 11 12. The HSC Advice Line provides course assistance and support from experienced teachers in 20 of the most popular HSC courses. The HSC Advice Line hours of operation are:
Monday – Thursday 4 pm – 10 pm Saturday 10 am – 6 pm
Sunday 10 am – 10 pm. Calls cost 30 cents and students need to give the operator their student number, course name and a summary of their question before they are put through to an advisor. During very busy or off-peak times, calls may be placed on a priority queue for callback later on the same day. Students are encouraged to also use Students Online for exam tips, tools and advice. HSC Online also includes study strategies, advice on exam techniques and information for more than 50 subjects.

Teaching Scholarships Applications Close 7th Oct

The NSW Department of Education and Communities teacher education scholarships offer great benefits for students wanting to train as teachers in mathematics, science or English and in primary or secondary special education. Up to 300 scholarships are on offer this year, of which at least 80 will be available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to train as teachers in primary or any secondary subject area. As a scholar students will receive a generous allowance of $5,000 per year for each year of full-time studies, plus a one-off grant of $3,000 when they begin teaching. For the typical duration of a four-year course for a teacher education degree, this amounts to $23,000 for students to spend as they wish! In addition, students may be eligible for the HECS-HELP benefit from the Commonwealth Government.
