Medicine Application Changes at UNSW
Universities: Posted 12-8-11 Deadline - No Deadline
Faculty of Medicine: From this year, students interested in studying medicine will complete their entire application online at www.med.unsw.edu.au. The application includes a section where students must answer questions concerning their life experiences and motivation to do medicine. Applicants submit their application without their school's prediciton of their ATAR. In early September, the UNSW Faculty of Medicine will send a single email to each school requesting predicted ATARs for all students who have applied by that time. This will be followed by a second email in early October for any additional applications received before the closing date of 30 September. Each email will contain a link to a web form allowing schools to enter the predicted ATAR for all applicants from that school. Schools will also have the opportunity to comment on individual students' applications. A school's comment, or lack of comment, will have no affect on the applicant's assessment for an interview. The Faculty is confident this new process will result in less work for school staff responsible for completing this information.
The Faculty of Medicine would like to take this opportunity to thank schools for their accurate prediction of students' ATARs. Over the past few years, the Faculty notes that the average difference between predicted and actual ATAR results has been approximately 0.25. This is remarkably accurate and it greatly assists the Faculty in selecting students for main round interviews prior to the release of HSC results.
